Catrina

We were hired by Bell Arts Factory, an artist community in Ventura, CA, to design and illustrate the marketing posters to promote “Va Por La Avenida” events, which translates as “This goes for the Avenue”. We designed the logo, poster and the following two events. They were a huge success! Proceeds helped the neighboring community of “The Avenue” and surrounding local businesses.

  • Sylvia and I sketched and designed every poster from scratch in pencil then created all the line work in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The timeline was short but we made it happen and created custom art for an amazing event and cause.

We also designed a detailed Map showing all the major and minor event contributors as well as the events happening at several locations up and down “The Avenue”. The event promoters involved the entire street and helped bring awareness to the fun things happening like Murals and art projects, local business hosted art shows, food and music made it a special cultural event.

  • Get inspired by the cause you design for and begin the journey with interviewing people or asking a lot of questions of the event organizers. Try to not leave any stone unturned because sometimes other opportunities arise that will allow you to help the community event better than first expected.

  • When you need to work with multiple agencies from City Hall, to Event promoter, other event groups, it helps to have 1 point person to funnel all the information through so your messages are not getting crossed. Also make a master list of people who will be contributing content so you can follow up with them for edits or proofing.

  • No detail is too small:

Make sure you give your work a few rounds of proofing and double check the links work, that the business phone numbers work. Convey any questions back to the group and be clear about what you need solved so no time is wasted trying to find out what you need done in order to complete your tasks.
